Fateless Podcast Recap: PREPARING FOR ALPHA 2 & LAUNCH!
Alpha Wave 3 is actually over, but let’s continue to take a look back at some insightful conversations that happened during each phase. In this past Fateless podcast between Alpha Wave 1 and 2, Brad, Simon and Paul welcomed Igor, Fateless’ Technical Director. Based in Brazil, Igor has 8+ years in games (console → mobile), a background in web/data science, and—fun fact—a former Dark Souls speedrunner. He favors single-player gems (think Death Stranding, Silent Hill) and now shepherds Godforge’s tech, stability, and release discipline.
Podcast Summary
The team broke down some of the crazy numbers behind the first alpha. There were about 45,000 hours played across the board with 5,000 testers (about 10 hours/player). Community reactions showed a positive sentiment overall. With “bugs aside,” the core combat, ult system, and hero kits landed.
Players were using heroes largely as intended—and sometimes in brilliant, unintended ways. Fixes in flight: edge-case loops, confuse tuning (it wasn’t just Mordred), and bugs like Odin’s cooldown not reducing with skill-ups were things adjusted along the way. As for Wave 2, expect resist/accuracy to matter more in the next wave; Fafnir gets smarter counters to divinity. cheese.
So, why not add EVERYTHING that’s ready into Alpha Wave 2? Alpha builds are stabilized branches; many QoL features exist in later dev builds but can’t be merged without risking new issues or muddying test data. The goal? Crush critical bugs, smooth difficulty spikes, and ship a few must-have QoL items already near-finished. Bigger systems (e.g., PvP with custom tournaments, spectate, replays; social/Pantheons) will roll out post-alpha via staged MVP → expand cycles.
What is MVP? We prioritize maximum player value per dev day. Some “small” requests (battle histories, live replays) require complex backend records, testing on all platforms, QA cycles, and build locks. The team is ahead on product quality, even if timing is a bit later than day-one dreams.
