Fateless Podcast Recap: MAKING MAGIC HAPPEN: VFX Artists Tell All!
In this past Fateless podcast, Brad, Damon and Bryan introduced one of the newest full-time members of the Fateless team — Rūta a talented technical and visual effects artist who first joined as an intern from Belgium’s Howest University. After impressing the team with her creative eye and problem-solving skills, she’s now working full-time to bring the visual magic of Godforge to life.
Podcast Summary
Rūta shared how she helps craft the small but striking details players see in the Alpha, like the glowing blue and violet flames that appear when a hero’s ultimate is ready — a subtle touch seen in nearly every screenshot from the community. Her role bridges the gap between technical art and gameplay, helping design and implement the visual effects that make Godforge’s heroes and environments come alive. Alongside senior artists Damon and Bryan, she contributes to the growing VFX Library, a system that helps the team rapidly create consistent, high-quality effects across hundreds of heroes.
The podcast also offered fans a behind-the-scenes look at how visual polish is evolving from Alpha to launch. Damon showcased major lighting upgrades that dramatically enhance character clarity, atmosphere, and depth — giving players a glimpse of what’s to come. As Bryan explained, these improvements, combined with streamlined VFX workflows, will make it far easier to expand from roughly 60 heroes in Alpha to over 200 at release.
For Rūta, one of the proudest moments so far was seeing players embrace Isolde, the first hero she ever worked on. “It was full circle,” she shared, laughing, “especially since I once said I’d never do VFX again.”
