Fateless Video Recap: The Godforge Process Studios Usually Keep Secret
Each week, we share a direct update from the team behind Godforge, so you can see what we’re building, what’s changing, and why we’re making the calls we are. This week, Suzi fills in while Simon is away and is joined by Aaron and Kris to talk about Gilgamesh, his role in the story, and the new cinematic summon animation being built for him.
Gilgamesh is not a legendary hero, but he is one of the most important characters in the story of Godforge. Aaron explains that Gilgamesh is central to the fiction because he destroys the ether well, causing the Shattering and setting the entire world of the game into motion.
The team also talks about why Gilgamesh was chosen for special treatment. While cinematic summon intros are planned for legendary heroes, Gilgamesh plays such a major role in the story that he is being treated as an exception. His reveal is meant to feel important, powerful, and worthy of the character’s place in the world.
Kris walks through how the cinematic was created. The team started by blocking out the action, focusing first on camera movement, timing, cuts, and the physicality of Gilgamesh. The environment came later, once the action and character language were working. That allowed the team to move quickly while keeping the focus on the hero.
The cinematic uses real in-game animation as its foundation. These are not just disconnected marketing shots. The goal is for players to see the same kind of power, motion, and personality that they will actually experience when using the hero in-game.
Aaron also explains how mythology shaped the scene. The team wanted Gilgamesh surrounded by enemies in a way that felt almost impossible to overcome. During research, Aaron found a mythological connection that supported the use of rocklike demons, which helped the final scene feel even more grounded in the world.
The result is a short, high-impact cinematic that shows who Gilgamesh is: a hero king, a god king, and a character strong enough to stand against overwhelming odds. It is another look at how Fateless is building Godforge in public, sharing the process while still continuing to refine the game behind the scenes.
