Fateless YouTube Video Recap: Godforge’s Music and Sound Are Building the World

Each week, we share a direct update from the team behind Godforge, so you can see what we’re building, what’s changing, and why we’re making the calls we are. This week, Brad is joined by Norbert from the Fateless sound team, along with Kranky Karynzky and Hollywood Gaming Network, for a deeper look at audio, music, sound design, and how sound helps bring Godforge to life.

Norbert explains that his work covers nearly everything players hear in the game: hero combat sounds, UI audio, cutscenes, ambient sound, technical implementation, and making sure each piece fits into the larger soundscape. Alongside Ivan, the composer, he helps shape the audio identity of Godforge.

A major focus of the episode is how much changed from alpha to beta. In alpha, many audio systems were still raw or missing, while the music was already a strong foundation. For beta, the team did a broader pass across hero sounds, UI audio, combat effects, death sounds, cutscenes, and dialog systems.

Norbert also talks about what comes next. Beta 2 and future builds should have fewer audio issues at launch, more polished hero sounds, improved cutscene audio, more ambient detail, and stronger musical moments for actions like summoning, upgrading, ranking up, awakening, and weapon progression.

The discussion also gets into how sound can help players understand combat. Hollywood brings up the idea of clearer audio cues for buffs, debuffs, and missed effects, while Norbert explains the challenge of giving useful feedback without overcrowding the soundscape.

There is also a great behind-the-scenes look at how game sounds are made. The sounds in Godforge are not AI-generated. Norbert uses sound libraries, custom recordings, voice, layering, effects, and creative processing to build sounds that feel unique to the game.

Sound is easy to overlook when it works well, but it shapes how the whole game feels. From combat impact to faction music, voice acting, ambient scenes, and summon reveals, audio is one of the key ways Godforge builds atmosphere and identity.
