Fateless Podcast Recap: BUILDING COMBAT IN GODFORGE!

On this past Fateless Podcast, Brad and Simon welcomed two new faces to the podcast—Marcelo, Senior Developer, and Alejandro, Development Intern—as they to dive into the evolving world of Godforge combat.

Podcast Summary

Marcelo brings a decade of experience across indie games, mobile, and VR/AR, now focused on building the core systems behind Godforge’s complex status effects. Alejandro, currently finishing his studies in Belgium, shared his transition into remote game development and the unique flexibility and learning experience at Fateless.

The team explored the challenges of implementing effects like Confuse, which breaks traditional turn-based behavior by causing enemies to attack their own team. From simple stat changes to high-impact mechanics, the effort behind each ability—visuals, camera work, system interactions—is far greater than most players realize. With over 200 heroes planned at launch, plus unique bosses and abilities, Marcelo notes this is one of the most ambitious combat systems he’s worked on. Both devs shared excitement for the project, inspired by RPG classics like The Witcher 3 and Baldur’s Gate 3.

Godforge’s combat is growing fast—and this peek into the process shows just how much care is going into every frame of battle.
